Biology 1 - First Graders

1.1 Vocabulary 

    1. brain .- Main organ of the central nervous system, located in the head; mind.

    2. spinal cord .- nerve tissue that runs through the vertebral column.

    3. neuron .- nerve tissue of the nervous system tha transmit information throughout the body.

    4. stimulus.- an external influence that causes a response.

    5. offspring.- a new organism produced by one or more parents; descendants; children.


    6. male.- person or animal of the masculine gender, men and boys.

    7. female.- person or animal of the feminine gender; women and girls.

    8. sexual reproduction.- the process of creating a new organism that uses both male and female.

    9. gamete .- a mature sexual reproductive cell.

    10. ovules .- female reproductive cell;  egg
       
    11. sperm .- male reproductive cell
    12. fertilizatilization .- the joining of a sperm and egg in the process of reproduction.

    13. zygote.- a fertilized egg.

    14. embryo.- begining stage of a human, animal, or plant.

    15. fetus.- baby of a human or animal while inside the womb.

    16. womb.- uterus; female cavity where the embryo and fetus develop.

    17. pregnancy.- carrying a baby in the uterus.

    18. stage.- phase or period of time; cycle 

    19. mating.- bringing together male and female for animal reproduction.

    20. spawning.- depositing eggs in large numbers by aquatic animals.

    21. oviparous.- animals that produce offspring from eggs.

    22. viviparous.- animals that develope inside the body of the mother.
