Reading - The Lost Dog (Sequential Linkers in the Past)

The Lost Dog

One sunny afternoon, Mia decided to take her dog, Rocky, for a walk in the park.
First, they strolled around the lake, enjoying the fresh air and the sound of birds. Rocky was sniffing around happily, exploring every bush and tree he could find. After a while, Mia noticed a squirrel darting across the path. Rocky saw it too and, without warning, darted after it!

Then, Mia shouted, “Rocky, come back!” but he was too far gone to listen. She chased after him, but he was too fast. Soon, Rocky disappeared into the woods, and Mia couldn’t see him anymore. She started to panic, wondering how she’d ever find him.

A few minutes later, Mia spotted Rocky’s paw prints on a muddy trail and decided to follow them. Eventually, after searching through the trees and calling his name, she heard a familiar bark nearby. At last, Mia found Rocky happily digging in the dirt, looking for the squirrel.

Mia hugged him tight, feeling relieved. Finally, they both walked back home, tired but happy to be together again.

As you can see, linkers like first, after a while, then, soon, a few minutes later, eventually, at last, and finally help you go through the sequence of events in Mia’s adventure with Rocky.
