📚 What Are Question Words?

Question words, also known as Wh-words, are used to ask questions and gather specific information. They usually begin with Wh (what, where, when, who, why, which, whose, how), and they help us understand who did something, what happened, where it occurred, and so on.

✅ Simple present:

Question Word + do/does + subject + base verb + complement?

✅ Simple past:

Question Word + did + subject + base verb + complement?

✅ With verb to be (present or past):

  • What do you mean?             — ¿Qué quieres decir? / ¿Qué significa eso?

  • Why not?                              — ¿Por qué no?

  • How come?                           — ¿Cómo es que...? / ¿Por qué? (informal)

  • Which one do you prefer?  — ¿Cuál prefieres?

  • Who do you think will win?— ¿Quién crees que ganará?
