Biology 1 - Unit 2 - Topic 6 - Human Reproduction

Why we look like our parents?

Do you look like your mother? Maybe you look more like your father.  Maybe your hair is curly like your Grandpa Harry.  Children get their looks, or features, from their parents´ genes.  A child can have a chin that looks like his mother´s, but lips that look like his father´s.  These features can be very different or strikingly similar for each child in the family.

Genes are responsible for transmitting the qualities from parents to children.

  1. Hair
  2. Height
  3. Eye color
All your appearance, depend on the combination of genes.

Not only humans have genes. All living things have genetic material that passes from parent to offspring to perpetuate the species, in a process called reproduction.

Human Reproduction

Reproduction is a biological process.  During the process of reproduction offspring of the same species are produced.

Reproduction in human beings takes place sexually, which means it requires the union of male sperm and female ovules, which are sexual cells, called gametes.

The Human Reproductive System

The reproductive system of men and women contains all the organ of the body that make possible the reproduction of offspring.
